In the late 1950s, heat transfer conduction techniques were extended to busbars by providing heat transfer contact between the insulated conductor and the outer casing. Due to the application of heat transfer technology, the fully enclosed busway has the same current density as the above-mentioned ventilation bus. This type of fully enclosed busway is rated for the same current regardless of where it is installed. Each phase uses a busbar of a busbar with a busbar width of 150mm (1.6kA). Higher rated currents require two sets (3kA) or three sets (5kA). Each set of busbars includes all three phases and neutrals to reduce line impedance.
 
In the earlier busway design, multiple nuts, bolts and washers were required for the connection of the conductive plates in the adjacent sections. In recent designs, each set of busbars is connected by only one bolt. The factory busbar section is shipped with all accessories. Installation work is greatly reduced and installation costs are saved. The busway can be made of a copper conductor or an aluminum conductor. Compared with copper, aluminum has a lower electrical conductivity and a lower mechanical strength. When exposed to air, its surface quickly forms an insulating film. When the current carrying capacity is the same, the weight of aluminum is lighter and the cost is less. For these reasons, the aluminum conductor should have an electroplated contact surface (tin or silver) and a disc spring and bolt connection at the electrical connection point to accommodate the mechanical properties of the aluminum.
 
Copper plug-in busbars are more adaptable to periodic loads like welding machines. The busway is usually made into a section of 30 cm. Because the busway must be compatible with the building, there are various combinations of bends, T-connections, cross-connections, and the like. There are feed and tap devices that lead to other electrical equipment such as switch boards, transformers, motor control centers, and the like. The plug for the plug-in busway uses a fuse switch and a die-shell circuit breaker. For single-phase and three-phase busway, the standard rated current is 20~5000A.
